First Marrowbone teaser reveals a sinister presence haunting Anya Taylor-Joy

The first sinister teaser trailer for screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez’s directorial debut Marrowbone has dropped.

Marrowbone stars Anya Taylor-Joy, who recently wowed everyone with her acting turns in The Witch, Morgan and Split, alongside Mia Goth (A Cure for Wellness), George Mackay (Captain Fantastic) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things). The movie may be Sanchez’s first directing gig (he also wrote the script), dude is no stranger to horror. Sanchez penned the screenplay for the 2007 Spanish horror movie The Orphanage, which was directed by J.A. Bayona (Penny Dreadful, A Monster Calls), who also serves as executive producer on the upcoming film.

So, what’s Marrowbone about? Here’s the synopsis:
A young man and his four younger siblings, who have kept secret the death of their beloved mother in order to remain together, are plagued by a sinister presence in the sprawling manor in which they live.

Marrowbone will be released in movie theaters in Spain on October 27. There’s no North American release date yet, but here’s hoping we’re going to see this sooner rather than later.

Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays the title role in Fox’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Morgan, has joined the cast of Marrowbone, a psychological thriller that marks the directing debut of writer Sergio G. Sanchez. The pic is being executive produced by J.A. Bayona, who directed Sanchez’s script The Orphanage and The Impossible which Sanchez co-wrote.

Marrowbone centers on four children who hide from the world after their mother’s death on a farm that holds a terrible secret. Belen Atienza, working with Bayona on the upcoming A Monster Calls, is producing. Mia Goth, George Mackay and Charlie Heaton co-star. Lionsgate International was selling the new thriller as part of its Cannes slate earlier this spring.

Taylor-Joy’s Morgan, co-starring Kate Mara, Paul Giamatti and Toby Jones and produced by Ridley Scott, opens September 2. Her credits include Robert Eggers’ indie hit The Witch and M. Night Shyamalan’s Split with James McAvoy which bows on January 20, 2017. She also just wrapped filming Thoroughbred opposite Olivia Cooke and the late Anton Yelchin, and Black Bear Pictures’ Barry from director Vikram Gandhi.

She is repped by CAA, Troika and Felker Toczek.
